Patient Participation Group (PPG)
We have established a Patient Participation Group which meets 4 to 6 times a year.
The purpose of a Patient Participation Group is:
- To give Practice staff and Patients the opportunity to discuss topics of mutual interest.
- To provide a means for Patients to make constructive suggestions about the Practice and specific medical conditions.
- To give a Patient view on proposed changes to service
- To encourage Health Education activities within the Practice.
- To develop self-help projects to meet the needs of fellow Patients, e.g. befriending, help with transport and bereavement support .
- To act as a representative group that can be called upon to influence the local provision of Health and Social Care.
The aims of the Patient Participation Group:
- To be a voice for the Patients.
- To help the Patients to understand Practice decisions.
- Aim to maintain and improve Patient satisfaction and experience.
- Be a link between the Patient, the Partners and Practice staff.
- Support the Practice in continuing to improve the service to the Patients and discuss our Practice performance data.
- Help patients to understand how they can build on responsibility for their own health.

In March 2022 a member of our PPG group opened their gardens up (for a small donation) to help raise money for two new Blood Pressure Monitors. We all enjoyed tea and scones after our walk.

December 2022
A huge THANK YOU to the Mid Devon Medical Practice Patient Participation Group (MDMP PPG) on their very successful fundraising.
On Friday 2nd December three members of the MDMP PPG presented the surgery with two 24 hour blood pressure monitors. The PPG have been spreading the word and organising events themselves to achieve the fundraising target of £2000.
Fundraising events such as a walk with tea and cake (hosted by Campie Hurst-Bannister) and sign language lessons and the sale of homemade craft’s (hosted by Lesley Rogers) both who are PPG members were very well attended. Local business’s also got involved and we are grateful to the Mount Pleasant Inn The Mountpleasant Inn and the Ring Of Bells The Ring of Bells in Cheriton Fitzpaine for their support.
Donations were also given from the proceeds of other local events such as a Bingo Night and a Jubilee event held at Nomansland Cricket Club: Nomansland Cricket Club Many other generous donations were made directly to the surgeries which we have been extremely grateful for.
Many pieces of equipment used at the Mid Devon Medical Practice are not funded or provided through the NHS so we are extremely grateful and lucky to have had such amazing support from our communities and PPG, enabling us to continue to provide the best possible care for our patient population.
Fundraising will continue in January 2023 so please keep your eyes peeled in the new year.

March 2023
On Tuesday 14th February Claire Borlase from Cheriton Fitzpaine hosted a coffee and cake afternoon on behalf of the Mid Devon Medical Practice’s Patient Participation Group (PPG) at Cheriton Fitzpaine Village Hall. The event was held to raise money for the Mid Devon Medical Practice to purchase two KardiaMobile machines.
The KardiaMobile is a personal ECG machine, it can also detect Atrial Fibrillation or normal heart rhythm, anywhere. The data gives your doctor a more complete view of your heart and the ability to identify other cardiac arrhythmias, this detailed information can help your GP develop a personalised care plan. These devices are not funded by the NHS.
The afternoon was a huge success and was well attended by adults and children. The children were kept busy with colouring while the adults managed to enjoy a hot drink and a treat. The event was based purely on donations and an amazing £307.50 was raised. Thank you to everyone who attended and everyone that helped in the kitchen and made some cakes. A special thank you to Claire for organising this and for all the time and hard work that was given.

June 2023 - present
Our next fundraising goal is to raise enough money to buy two Feno machines. We already have one Feno machine but ideally would like one for each surgery.
What is it?
FeNO devices are a novel medical technology used to aid in the diagnosis of asthma. FeNO devices measure fractional exhaled nitric oxide in the breath of patients. Nitric oxide is a biomarker for asthma which provides an indication of the level of inflammation in the lungs. FeNO testing produces a FeNO score which gives a value to the level of inflammation and can therefore be used to aid in the diagnosis of asthma. Although FeNO is primarily a diagnostic tool, it has an additional use in the ongoing monitoring of chronic asthma. Please click the link below for more information.
